As of August 1, 2002, the number of pastors who are women in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America was 2,707, which is 15.3 percent of all (17,693) ordained ministers. Of the active category (those not retired), the percentage is 21.9. In 1991, the number of pastors who were women was 1,400 or 8.0 percent of ordained ministers.
